The Classic Quarter is widely regarded as one of Cornwall’s toughest endurance events, taking runners along 44 miles of the spectacular South West Coast Path from Lizard Point to Land’s End.
The route is famous for its relentless climbs, technical terrain and breathtaking views. This year, however, runners had to contend with much more than just the distance. Heavy rain, strong winds and challenging underfoot conditions turned an already demanding event into a real test of endurance and determination.
Despite the weather doing its best to make life difficult, Carn Runners were out in force and delivered some fantastic performances across all categories, even if at times they may have been questioning their life choices!

Fantastic Results in Tough Conditions
The weather may have been brutal, but that didn’t stop some impressive performances.
Both Carn Runners four-person relay teams put together excellent runs and finished 15th overall in the relay standings. Considering the conditions and the quality of the competition, that’s a superb achievement by everyone involved.
In the two-person relay category, James and his brother delivered an outstanding performance to finish 7th overall, a fantastic result in one of Cornwall’s most challenging endurance events.
Dan and his teammate also put in a tremendous effort, battling through the conditions to complete the full challenge.
Josh Takes on the Full 44 Miles Solo
While the relay teams shared the workload, Josh B took on the ultimate challenge — the entire 44-mile route solo.
After months of training, including several huge preparation runs, Josh lined up to tackle the full Classic Quarter alone. Even in perfect conditions, the event is a serious undertaking. With strong winds, heavy rain and relentless coast path climbs, this year’s edition was tougher than ever.
Josh dug deep, stayed focused and successfully completed the full route, earning his place among the event’s solo finishers.
It’s a huge achievement and one that reflects the dedication, commitment and hard work he has put in over recent months.
More Than Just a Race
The Classic Quarter is about much more than times and finishing positions.
It’s about perseverance when conditions are against you. It’s about teamwork, determination and finding a way forward when the course seems never-ending.
Every Carn Runner who took part faced the same rain, the same wind and the same relentless Cornish coastline. Every one of them rose to the challenge.
An Epic Weekend for Carn Runners
With two relay teams finishing 15th overall, a 7th-place finish in the pairs category, a successful solo completion of all 44 miles, and another Carn member representing the club as part of a separate team, it was a memorable weekend for Carn Runners.
Most importantly, every runner crossed the finish line knowing they had conquered one of Cornwall’s most demanding events in some truly testing conditions.
A massive well done to Ricky, Steve P, Gavin, Chris H, Bex, Tori, Tonia, Janet R, Dan W, James M, Josh B and Elaine A.
You all earned your medals, your finish-line celebrations and probably a very long nap afterwards!
An incredible effort from every single one of you 👏💙💛
