Three Carn Runners made the trip to Devon for the Bideford 10 Mile on Sunday 1 November 2026. Wayne, Jan and Janet took on the scenic estuary-side course in beautiful sunshine — a lovely setting for ten miles in Carn colours.
There was one small hitch with the race-day photo: Wayne was too quick in his go-faster Carn kit to make it into the shot! The picture may have missed one member of the trio, but this was very much an outing for all three. A huge well done to Wayne, Jan and Janet.
Ten miles beside the estuary
Bideford Amateur Athletic Club’s Bideford 10 Mile race page describes a course that starts and finishes close to its clubhouse, with views across the Taw and Torridge estuary. Runners head out on roads before returning along the Tarka Trail. There is even a tunnel on the route: a distinctive change of scene amid the open estuary views.
The organiser calls the course moderately flat, with three small inclines. That gives a clearer picture of the challenge than calling it simply flat. Over ten miles, there is time to settle into a rhythm, take in the changing surroundings and keep something in reserve for the way back towards Bideford. Sunday’s sunshine made those views an especially welcome backdrop for our three runners.
The route is part of what makes this a memorable away race. It offers more distance than a 10K without stretching to a half marathon, and its mix of town roads and Tarka Trail gives the miles some variety. For anyone curious about the setting, the organiser’s race page includes a link to its course map.
Another Carn outing to Bideford
This was not Carn’s first race trip to the North Devon town in 2026. Club members also headed over for a Bideford race weekend in May. Sunday brought a different distance and a new chance for Wayne, Jan and Janet to represent the club away from Cornwall.
That is one of the pleasures of following our members’ racing: Carn colours turn up on all sorts of courses, and each trip has its own story. This one has an estuary, a sunny November day and a group photo with a Wayne-shaped gap. We may have to be quicker with the camera next time!
Congratulations again to all three for taking on the Bideford 10 Mile. Jan and Janet made the photo, Wayne made the race, and together they gave us another Carn outing to celebrate.
Whether you were following from Cornwall or spotted the Carn kit in Devon, we hope this little race-day story brings a smile. Well done, Wayne, Jan and Janet!
