Tony and Glynn Smash PBs at the Cornish Marathon 2025

Marathon running in Cornwall is never easy — but this year, Tony and Glynn proved that dedication, training, and club spirit can conquer even the toughest miles. Taking on the Cornish Marathon, both runners produced outstanding performances, achieving personal bests on one of the hilliest and most challenging courses in the South West.

Cornwall’s Toughest Road Marathon

Organised by the Tamar Trotters, the Cornish Marathon is legendary among local runners. Starting and finishing in Pensilva, the course winds through Bodmin Moor, mixing quiet country lanes with relentless rolling hills. The scenery is breathtaking, but so is the elevation — and that’s what makes every finisher a true marathon hero.

This year’s event delivered the full Cornish experience: cool temperatures, unpredictable wind, and the kind of climbs that test mind and body in equal measure. But for Tony and Glynn, months of hard work and long training runs paid off beautifully.

Tony’s Sub-5 Triumph

For Tony, this was a milestone race. Determined to break the five-hour barrier, he ran a smart, consistent pace from the first mile to the last. Managing his effort carefully through the early climbs, he kept energy in reserve for the tougher second half of the course — and it worked perfectly.

Crossing the line in under five hours, Tony achieved his goal and earned a huge new personal best. For anyone who’s tackled this marathon before, that’s no small achievement — the Cornish course is known for its punishing gradients and long, exposed sections where mental strength matters as much as physical fitness.

Tony’s steady performance and upbeat attitude throughout the race captured the very essence of Carn Runners: determination, good humour, and perseverance.

Glynn’s Age-Group Success

Meanwhile, Glynn was flying over the same hills, putting in one of his best marathon performances to date. Not only did he bag a PB, but he also finished 4th in his age category, showing superb pacing and resilience from start to finish.

Glynn’s experience and strong training base showed through in every mile. His result adds another excellent chapter to what’s already been a season of impressive performances across the club.

A Day of Grit, Pride, and Reward

The Cornish Marathon may be brutal, but it’s also beautiful — and it remains one of those races that every serious local runner wants to tick off their list. The camaraderie at the start line, the marshals cheering from windswept laybys, and the sight of the finish line appearing at Pensilva all combine to make it a truly special event.

For Tony and Glynn, the day ended not just with medals, but with pride and satisfaction that come only from knowing you gave it your all. PBs are the bonus; the real reward is finishing strong, smiling, and still loving the sport.

Well Done, Tony and Glynn!

Huge congratulations to both runners on fantastic results at the Cornish Marathon 2025. A sub-five-hour finish and a top-four age-group placing are achievements to be proud of — especially on one of Cornwall’s toughest courses.

Here’s to recovery miles, dry shoes, and the next challenge ahead. 💛💙
