The Final Countdown 10K proved to be a fitting way for Janet R, Janet W and Sarah to close out their racing year, marking the last race of 2025 with a combination of crisp winter conditions, stunning scenery and the simple satisfaction of finishing strong.

With temperatures low and the ground icy underfoot at the start, it was a race that demanded patience and care early on. But as the morning unfolded, the conditions turned out to be just about perfect for running — cold enough to feel fresh, yet clear and bright enough to enjoy everything the route had to offer.

A Cold and Icy Start

Race mornings at this time of year always come with an extra layer of challenge, and this one was no exception. The early conditions required careful footing and a steady approach, especially during the opening stages. It was very much a case of settling into the race, letting the body warm up naturally and trusting that the miles would start to feel better as the route progressed.

Despite the chilly start, spirits were high on the start line. Knowing this would be the final race of the year added a sense of occasion, with all three runners ready to enjoy the experience rather than chase anything too specific on the clock.

Perfect Weather and Stunning Views

Once underway, the Final Countdown 10K delivered exactly what it promised. As the race moved through the course, the icy start gave way to clear skies, calm conditions and beautiful views, making it one of those winter races where the scenery becomes part of the enjoyment.

The route offered plenty to look at, helping distract from tired legs and allowing the runners to really take in the surroundings. These are the kinds of races that remind you why winter running can be so rewarding — quiet roads, crisp air and a sense of space that’s harder to find at busier times of year.

Each of the Carnies settled into their own rhythm, running strong and consistently through the middle miles and enjoying the chance to finish the year on a positive note.

A Meaningful Finish to the Year

Crossing the line at the Final Countdown 10K felt particularly satisfying. Not just because the race was done, but because it marked the end of a full year of training, racing and shared miles. Finishing 2025 with a solid, enjoyable run was a great way to draw a line under the year and head into the winter break feeling accomplished.

There’s something special about a final race — it carries a sense of reflection as much as effort, and this one delivered both.

Coffee, Cake and a Proper Cool Down

As any seasoned runner knows, a race isn’t truly complete without a good café stop — and this one didn’t disappoint. A post-race visit to Strawberry Fields provided the perfect setting to warm up, refuel and relax with coffee, tea and cake.

It was a chance to sit back, chat about the race and enjoy that post-run glow that only comes after finishing strong. The café stop added a lovely social finish to the morning, rounding off the race in true Carn Runners style.

Ending 2025 on a High

The Final Countdown 10K turned out to be a brilliant way for Janet R, Janet W and Sarah to close out the racing year — challenging enough to feel earned, scenic enough to be enjoyed, and social enough to be remembered fondly.

Well done to all three on completing their final race of 2025. A strong finish, great company and a well-deserved slice of cake — the perfect recipe for ending the year on a high. 💙💛
