Janet Takes on Long Course Weekend Belgium

This month, Janet swapped Cornwall’s lanes for the canals, hills, and cobbled streets of Belgium to take on the Long Course Weekend Belgium — a three-day multisport festival that blends triathlon-style challenges with a big focus on fun and community.

Freezing Swim Friday

The weekend kicked off with a 1.2-mile swim in freezing cold water. Braving the chill, Janet pushed through the icy conditions and came out strong, setting the tone for the days ahead.

A Brutal 115-Mile Bike Ride

Saturday saw the toughest test of the weekend — a 115-mile bike ride. The course was as varied as it was demanding, with long flat canal paths, an extreme hill section, windy polders, gravel trails, and cobbled roads that made the ride especially punishing. Janet described the cobbles as “wrecking my poor shoulder,” but showed incredible grit to get through the full distance.

Half Marathon to Finish

On Sunday, Janet laced up her trainers for the final leg: a half marathon. After two days of gruelling effort, this was no easy feat, but she showed the determination that defines a true endurance athlete, crossing the finish line and completing the full Long Course Weekend challenge.

Belgian Delights Along the Way

Of course, this being Belgium, the weekend wasn’t just about the racing. Janet and her crew also made time to enjoy the local specialities — from beer and seafood to waffles and pancakes. The perfect fuel and reward for such a demanding three days!

More Than Just a Race

What makes Long Course Weekend Belgium stand out is its mix of serious endurance sport with a relaxed, festival-like atmosphere. Janet described it perfectly: “an awesome mix of not-too-serious tri events and culinary delights.”

Huge congratulations to Janet for completing the Long Course Weekend Belgium. Three days, three disciplines, 115 miles on the bike, icy water, cobbled roads, and a half marathon to finish — all tackled with determination, humour, and a healthy appetite for waffles! 💛💙
