Sunday Social Run – Miles, Mates & The Rockpool
Sundays are for easy miles, good company, and post-run coffee — and this week’s Carn Runners Sunday Social ticked all three boxes perfectly. With distances of 6, 7, and 9 miles, there was something for everyone, from steady cruisers to those stretching the legs a little further.
The morning kicked off with clear skies and cool air — ideal running weather for the group heading out along the Cornish coast. Small groups naturally formed, chatting and pacing together as the miles rolled by. And while most logged 6–9 miles, word has it Ali might have gone a little further, proving once again that some runners just can’t resist adding “a bit extra.”
Coastal Miles & Easy Chat
This wasn’t about racing or chasing splits — it was all about getting out, enjoying the fresh air, and catching up with clubmates. The route offered everything a Sunday run should: quiet roads, stunning views, and that perfect mix of effort and relaxation.
Runners took their own pace, regrouping at regular points and cheering each other along. These social sessions have become a highlight of the Carn Runners calendar — a chance for newer members to meet others, for regulars to chat without the pressure of a stopwatch, and for everyone to enjoy the best part of the week together.
Post-Run Reward at The Rockpool
Of course, no Sunday run would be complete without the traditional Rockpool café visit afterwards. Once the last few runners made it back, everyone regrouped for coffee, breakfast, and plenty of laughs. From recovery tips to weekend plans, the post-run chatter flowed just as easily as the miles had.
A big thank you to Mark Scallan for providing the “taxi service” — helping runners get to and from the route smoothly and ensuring everyone made it back for caffeine and cake.
Why These Runs Matter
It’s easy to underestimate how important these relaxed Sunday outings are. They’re not about pace or medals — they’re about connection, consistency, and community. The social runs give members a chance to:
- Recover after races or hard weeks of training
- Catch up with friends in a relaxed environment
- Build mileage in good company
- Encourage those who are new or returning to running
They’re a reminder that running isn’t just a sport — it’s a shared experience, and these mornings perfectly capture the spirit of Carn Runners.
Looking Ahead
As the autumn season continues, Sunday socials will keep rolling, offering a chance to explore different routes and enjoy Cornwall’s stunning scenery together. Whether you’re after a gentle jog, a few extra miles, or simply an excuse for coffee with friends, the door’s always open.
Thanks again to everyone who joined this week, and to Mark for his help with logistics. Same time next week? We’ll see you there. 💛💙
