Janet and Sarah Brave the Wet & Windy Tamar Bridge 10K

The elements were in full force for this weekend’s Tamar Bridge 10K, but that didn’t stop Carn Runners’ Janet and Sarah from taking it on with trademark determination and smiles. The race, which spans one of Cornwall’s most iconic landmarks, lived up to its reputation — tough, exposed, and unforgettable.

With rain coming in sideways and gusts sweeping across the bridge, conditions were far from ideal. Yet for runners like Janet and Sarah, the challenge only added to the sense of adventure. The event is known for its incredible views over the Tamar Estuary — though on this occasion, they came with a healthy dose of wind and water!

Battling the Bridge

Starting near the Saltash side, runners quickly discovered what makes this race unique — the combination of steady climbs, open stretches, and of course, the famous bridge crossing itself. The Tamar Bridge may look majestic, but in windy weather it feels like running through an invisible wall.

For Sarah, it was a test of grit and rhythm, staying focused through the gusts and puddles while keeping pace on the long straights. Her strong finish reflected her growing consistency this season, rounding off another impressive performance after her recent Multi-Terrain Series success.

Janet, meanwhile, once again showed her trademark resilience and racing class. Despite the weather throwing everything at the runners, she powered through the course with her usual control — and was rewarded with 1st place in her age category! A brilliant achievement that highlights her strength, experience, and ability to perform whatever the conditions.

A Race of Two Halves

The first half of the course saw runners heading out against the wind, battling the elements on every step. But after the turnaround, things shifted — with a tailwind pushing everyone homeward and spirits lifting as the finish line drew closer.

Supporters lined the course wherever shelter allowed, cheering on drenched but determined runners as they returned across the bridge. That final stretch, with the bridge deck slick and the sound of wind roaring in your ears, was as tough mentally as it was physically.

For both Janet and Sarah, it was a reminder of what winter racing in Cornwall is all about — unpredictable weather, shared determination, and a finish line that feels all the sweeter when you’ve fought for it.

Club Pride in Every Mile

Despite the small field and harsh conditions, the Carn Runners vest was proudly on display, representing the club’s enduring spirit. These are the races that build resilience — the ones where comfort takes a back seat and camaraderie keeps you moving forward.

With Janet taking home a category win and Sarah clocking another solid run, the pair did the club proud once again. Their efforts summed up what Carn Runners stand for: showing up, digging deep, and enjoying the journey no matter the weather.

Well Done, Janet & Sarah!

Huge congratulations to both for taking on the wet and windy Tamar Bridge 10K and flying the Carn Runners flag with pride. And a special round of applause to Janet for her 1st-place age-category finish — a well-earned result after a season of hard work and consistency.

Here’s to more medals, more miles, and hopefully a little less wind next time! 💛💙
