Carn Runners Tackle the Tough Rosemullion 10K
It was another strong showing for Carn Runners this weekend as the “Magnificent Seven” took on the rugged trails and coastal paths around Mawnan Smith for the Rosemullion 10K — a race that’s as beautiful as it is brutal. With rolling hills, narrow tracks, and plenty of Cornish mud to contend with, it’s a real test of strength and stamina.
The Magnificent Seven
Representing the club were Steve Phillips, Pete Drew, Charmaine, Gavin, Sarah, Sally, and Janet — a determined squad ready to take on whatever the Cornish coast could throw at them.
The Rosemullion route, which winds its way along sections of the South West Coast Path and inland trails near Mawnan Smith, is notorious for its climbs, uneven terrain, and breathtaking scenery. What it lacks in smooth tarmac, it makes up for in views — but as every runner knows, those views usually come after a fair bit of uphill effort.
Strong Performances All Round
There were standout performances across the board. Steve Phillips delivered a superb run, taking three minutes off last year’s time — a huge improvement on an already challenging course. That’s no small feat when the hills and trail conditions seem to get tougher every year.
Pete Drew had another excellent outing, finishing 2nd in his age category, once again showing his consistency and competitive spirit.
For Charmaine, Gavin, and Sarah, it was their first time running the event, and they handled it brilliantly, taking on the unpredictable terrain with determination and smiles all the way.
Rounding out the team were Sally and Janet, both of whom added strength and experience to the group — proof that teamwork, encouragement, and a bit of grit go a long way on days like these.
A Classic Cornish Challenge
The Rosemullion 10K, organised by the Falmouth Running Club, has quickly become a fixture in the Cornish running calendar. The combination of coast path climbs, wooded trails, and exposed fields means no two miles are the same. One minute you’re climbing towards sea views; the next, you’re ducking into muddy woodland or battling a headwind along the cliffs.
The race may be small in numbers, but it’s big in atmosphere — friendly marshals, cheering locals, and that trademark Cornish hospitality at the finish. Despite the lack of a team photo this time, the stories, smiles, and muddy shoes said it all.
Club Spirit on Display
Days like this capture the heart of what Carn Runners is all about — taking on challenges together, supporting each other through the tough miles, and celebrating every effort, whether it’s a course PB or a first attempt.
Well done to all seven runners for representing the club so brilliantly and for tackling one of Cornwall’s toughest 10Ks with smiles and determination. 💛💙
Here’s to dry shoes, good recovery, and the next Cornish adventure!
