A Year That Had It All

As 2025 draws to a close, it feels like the right moment to pause and reflect on another full and memorable year for Carn Runners. From local races and big challenges to social miles, charity efforts and plenty of muddy shoes along the way, the past twelve months have captured everything that makes the club what it is.

Whether you were lining up on start lines, turning up for weekly runs, volunteering, or simply enjoying being part of the group, 2025 showed once again that Carn Runners is about far more than just times and distances.

Racing Highlights Across the Year

Racing played a big part in 2025, with Carn Runners represented at events across Cornwall, the South West and beyond. Members took on everything from short road races to multi-terrain events, marathons and ultras, often in challenging conditions and on demanding courses.

There were plenty of standout moments throughout the year — age-group successes, personal bests, first-time race finishes and team achievements — but just as important were the quieter victories. Runners returning after time away, stepping up to longer distances, or simply enjoying being back on a start line all contributed to a year full of achievement.

Many of these performances were celebrated in our regular updates, including the November and December round-up, which captured the closing months of the year and some excellent end-of-season results:

November & December Round-Up As autumn gave way to winter, Carn Runners continued to pack plenty into the final months of the year. November and December delivered a brilliant mix of racing, social runs, festive events and well-earned celebrations, showing once again that the club doesn’t slow down just because the evenings get darker. The Trevithick 12K: A New Chapter

One of the biggest milestones of 2025 was the introduction of the Trevithick 12K, replacing the much-loved Storm Force 10. Its launch marked the beginning of a new chapter for the club, combining local history with a testing and varied route that quickly generated excitement.

As the year progressed, the Trevithick 12K became a shared focus — from training runs and recces to promotion and organisation behind the scenes. Anticipation continued to build through the autumn, with runners preparing for January and the club coming together to support what promises to be a standout event.

Social Miles, All Year Long

Alongside racing, social running remained the heartbeat of Carn Runners throughout 2025. Sunday socials took in coast paths, woodland trails and familiar local routes, with distances to suit everyone and plenty of conversation along the way.

Friday night runs continued to thrive too, whatever the weather — from Illogan lanes and dunes runs to festive outings under Christmas lights. Mondays also made a welcome return later in the year, reinforcing just how much value members place on consistent, inclusive opportunities to run together.

These runs weren’t about pace or pressure. They were about turning up, enjoying the miles and supporting one another week after week — something that defines the club just as much as race day results.

Community, Charity and Giving Back

2025 was also a year of generosity and community spirit. Carn Runners supported a range of causes through fundraising challenges, virtual events and volunteering, showing that running can be a powerful way to give back.

One particularly inspiring example was Janet’s incredible charity ride, which saw hundreds of miles covered in support of Cornwall Hospice Care — a challenge that captured the determination and kindness that runs through the club:

Janet’s journey: more than 335 miles One of our own — Janet — has just finished an astonishing cycling challenge to raise funds for Cornwall Hospice Care. What began as a 335-mile “Cycle France” route through Normandy and Brittany turned into approximately 400 miles by the time she pedalled back from Plymouth into Cornwall. JustGiving

The club also embraced meaningful virtual challenges, including a Remembrance-themed run that ensured medals raised funds rather than going to waste:

Virtual Warhorse 10K – Running to Remember This weekend, several Carn Runners took part in the Virtual Warhorse 10K, braving classic Cornish wind and rain to complete their miles in honour of those who served. What began as a small idea turned into something truly meaningful. When organisers of the original Warhorse Run discovered they

Celebrating People and Achievements

The year came together at the club’s Christmas Party and Awards Night — a chance to celebrate not just results, but commitment, improvement, leadership and the people who quietly keep everything moving.

From milestone race counts to stepping up as run leaders and coaches, the awards highlighted the many ways members contribute to Carn Runners. It was a reminder that success here is measured in effort, encouragement and consistency as much as it is in finish times.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As we look ahead to 2026, there’s plenty to be excited about. New goals, new challenges and familiar routes await, with the Trevithick 12K leading the way and the club’s social and racing calendar continuing to offer something for everyone.

Thank you to everyone who made 2025 such a positive and memorable year. Whether you’ve been part of Carn Runners for years or joined more recently, your contribution matters.

Here’s to more miles, more memories, and more running together. Happy 2026, running family. 💛💙💛💙
